Verizon Volunteers Meet Regis Philbin; Receive Award at Help USA Dinner
Verizon received the Mentoring Corporate Responsibility award from Help USA Tuesday night for its ongoing support of the organization's Mentoring USA program in New York City.
More than two dozen Verizon employees volunteer their time at P.S. 154 in Harlem to mentor elementary school students. Pecolia Gortman, who has been coordinating Verizon's involvement in the mentoring program at P.S. 154 accepted the award on Verizon's behalf from Mentoring USA founder Matilda Cuomo at an awards dinner at the Plaza in New York City.
"Television personality Regis Philbin was among those in attendance at the dinner. In addition to the valuable time commitment of Verizon employees, the Verizon Foundation has provided a $100,000 grant to the organization to expand its mentoring program into Brooklyn and Central New York State.
