Wonderopolis Prepares Parents for Everyday Moments to Ignite Lifelong Learning in Children

Wonderopolis™, a new education website designed specifically for parents by the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL), is now linked to Verizon Foundation's Thinkfinity.org, http://www.thinkfinity.org/wonderopolis. Parents can find simple, fast and fun ways to help their children make exciting discoveries about their environment and develop a sense of wonder and love of learning that will last throughout their lives.

The site launched on Oct. 4, in direct response to the challenges parents voiced in recent research. "They felt stuck, knowing they are the most important factor in their children's education but not sure how to help, how to navigate the education system or find the resources or time they need," said Emily Kirkpatrick, NCFL vice president.

Fun Family Learning Experiences

Whether it's a curious question or an everyday adventure, learning follows us wherever we go. Wonderopolis helps parents bring fun family learning experiences to the dinner table, the car pool line, or a simple walk outside in the evening. "Literacy is at the root of a person's ability to succeed, and the family is at the heart," Kirkpatrick said.

NCFL is generating the Wonder of the Day content and receiving inspiration from many places, including Thinkfinity content partners. Down the road, the website will expand to include user-generated content directly from parents. The Thinkfinity Community will also provide a weekly round-up of Wonders.

"Verizon Foundation understands the importance of family literacy as a key driver in a child's education," said Patrick Gaston, Verizon Foundation president. "We are pleased to promote the NCFL's excellent literacy and learning program and expand the many benefits offered by Thinkfinity.org."
