Spotlight: SPICE
Software Professionals Inspiring Community Empowerment, better known as SPICE, is a group of Verizon India volunteers with their hearts set on sharing their time and expertise with their local community. One of their activities is tutoring 50 fifth-graders in English at the Olcott School. To build enthusiasm and excitement for the program, they recently awarded caps, T-shirts, jump ropes and footballs to the participants in a school athletics event.
"These children have the ability to shine, but at home they don’t get very much motivation and support. They were so happy to be recognized for their participation. Small steps like this encourage them to try to fulfill their dreams," said volunteer Kavita Garg.
"The event was a learning experience for all of us. The individual winners wholeheartedly agreed to share their prizes with their peers and the school. They received overwhelming appreciation from their classmates," said volunteer Jagadeesh Narasimhan.
