Volunteer Journal / Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP)
If you journal 50 or more volunteer hours this year with the same organization/school, you can request a $750 Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) grant to be awarded to that organization/school. Employees may request VIP grants on behalf of two separate organizations for a total of $1,500 each year.
How to use the Volunteer Journal / Request A VIP Grant
- Volunteer with a United States 501(c)(3) or international equivalent nonprofit organization or public school.
- Log your daily hours online using the Volunteer Journal.
- Upon logging your 50 hours click on "Request Match" (found at the bottom of your volunteer journal page), then complete/submit your VIP grant request
- Provide the nonprofit/school with instructions on verifying your volunteer hours (follow online instructions)

- What is the online Volunteer Journal?
- The Volunteer Journal is an online tool used by employees to track their volunteer hours. Using this tool, active Verizon employees log their daily volunteer hours. Each journal entry registered includes the volunteer date, the number of hours volunteered and a summary of the volunteer activity. If an employee registers 50 volunteer hours, within the current calendar year, with an eligible nonprofit or public school they can request a $750 USD VIP grant for that organization.

- Employees are required to make daily entries for their volunteer hours.Hours can be entered at any time after the volunteerism has occurred -- that is, employees can enter all of their hours on Dec. 31, but they would have to make a number of entries, breaking down the hours by the days volunteered
- How many hours must I volunteer to earn a 2011 VIP grant?
- In order to qualify for a VIP grant you must track your daily volunteer hours using the Volunteer Journal. If you volunteer 50 or more hours this year with a qualified nonprofit or public school you can apply for a $750 Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) grant for that organization from the Verizon Foundation.
- Can I register for a VIP grant if I volunteered on company time?
- No. To qualify for a VIP grant, all volunteer hours must be performed on the employee's own personal time.
- How many $750 VIP grant awards can an employee earn each year?
- Active Verizon employees can earn VIP grants on behalf of two separate organizations for a total of $1,500 each year. All volunteer hours must be registered using the Volunteer Journal, once you log 50 or more hours, you can apply for a $750 VIP grant.
- If I serve on a nonprofit board, does the Verizon Foundation pay board membership fees, dues, and/or provide financial support in connection with my nonprofit board service?
- No. Employees are responsible for any/all board membership fees, dues and financial support in connection with nonprofit board service. However if an employee volunteers 50 or more hours with a qualified nonprofit or public school, including board meetings and activities associated with board service, they can apply for a $750 VIP grant for the organization where they serve. All volunteer hours must be registered using the Volunteer Journal, once you log 50 or more hours you can apply for a $750 VIP grant.
- How does the nonprofit verify my volunteer hours?
- The nonprofit must verify your volunteer hours online at http://foundation.verizon.com/nonprofit/vip If the organization needs assistance navigating through the verification process, they may contact the Verizon Volunteers Program Support Center via email at vznmail@cybergrants.com or by calling (866)247-2687 between 8am and 8pm ET. Note: Employees are not permitted to confirm their own volunteer hours or those of another Verizon employee. Employee’s “ Family Member”* or someone with whom they share a “Close Personal Relationship”** are not permitted to confirm employees hours.
- Is the Verizon Foundation permitted to enter/register Matching Gift requests on behalf of an employee/retiree?
- No. The policy and compliance rules that govern the Verizon Volunteers Matching Gifts and Volunteer Incentive Program prohibit the Verizon Foundation from registering a donation on behalf of an employee/retiree. Eligible employees and eligible retirees must register their gift online at http://foundation.verizon.com/donor. Employees/Retirees can contact the Verizon Foundation Customer Service Center at 1-866-247-2687 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday - this staff answer questions about registration - but are not permitted to enter any donation.

"Family Member" includes members of the employee's immediate and extended family. (Immediate and extended family includes, but is not limited to, one's spouse, domestic partner, parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandparents, grandchildren, cousins, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews or any similar half or step-relationship.)
**"Close Personal Relationship" refers to anyone in your family or household, someone with whom you have, or had, a romantic relationship, or other close personal relationship.
